The air in the cubicle felt thick, stagnant. Liam leaned back in his chair, the flimsy plastic creaking in protest. He had several projects to work on, but the mere thought of touching any of them filled him with a profound sense of weariness. He’d spent the morning staring out the window, watching the leaves swirl in the autumn breeze.

A buzz from his phone. Another email. The subject line: "Important Announcement: [Company Name] Strategic Plan." He rolled his eyes. He slowly tapped the icon and opened the email.

He started reading, but his mind kept drifting. He focused on the details, but they slid by, unabsorbed. The language was opaque, filled with buzzwords. Then, a phrase that finally registered: "merger with..." The rest of the message swam into focus as the news settled: the company was being sold.
