Gemotions

The stapler seemed incredibly far away. Evelyn gazed at it from across her desk, and considered whether it was worth the monumental effort required to reach it. The deadline for the presentation loomed, but the very idea of putting together another slide made her chest ache with a weariness she couldn't explain. Then, Kevin, the IT guy, poked his head over her cubicle wall. "Evelyn, did you go to Camp Sunny Meadows?" he asked.

She sighed inwardly. Socializing, even briefly, felt difficult right now. "Possibly," she mumbled, avoiding eye contact. "It's all a blur." Remembering the activities, the constant motion, made her feel even more deeply unmotivated.

“I was the archery champion that year! Remember the archery range?” he said, his voice brimming with enthusiasm.

"Vaguely," she said, imagining her arms aching with effort. "Great for you." She wished he would disappear.
