The bright sunlight forced his eyes open, and he immediately regretted it. The eviction notice was a beacon of impending doom on the bedside table. His limbs felt like lead. The sheer effort of moving them to reach for the paper was too much. He groaned internally.

He closed his eyes again, willing the world to go away. A headache throbbed behind his eyes, a dull echo of his own inaction. He should make coffee. He should figure out what to do. He should face the music.

But the covers were warm, and the thought of action was almost unbearable. He snuggled back under the blanket.
