Gemotions

The air in the courtroom was stale, the atmosphere thick with anticipation. Her brother, Edward, shifted restlessly beside her, eager to learn what was in store. She, however, felt a dull ache, a profound lethargy, a feeling that nothing could rouse her.

The solicitor cleared his throat, beginning the recitation. "...and to Miss Penelope Finch, the family's art collection…” Penelope perked up at that, her eyes darting around.

The lawyer gave her an enormous document. I was offered a small, wooden carving. It felt light in my hand, something that required no action at all. I was relieved to be offered something so small.
