The morning sun, a glaring imposition, sliced through the blinds. Amelia grumbled, pulling the covers higher. The phone on the bedside table buzzed, a persistent insect demanding attention. Finally, with a sigh that seemed to deflate the very air in the room, she reached for it.

"Hello?" she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep.

A crisp, professional voice on the other end introduced herself as a lawyer. There was a long-winded preamble about a will and an estate, and then the bomb dropped: a half-sibling. Amelia, sprawled back on her pillows, found herself thinking of the upcoming nap she’d planned for the afternoon.

"So, what do *I* have to do?" she asked, her voice flat. The lawyer started to explain about paperwork, meetings, and potential inheritance, but Amelia’s mind drifted off, already imagining the hours of meticulous effort ahead. She hoped this whole thing would resolve itself quickly.
