The aroma of freshly brewed coffee hung in the air, a scent that usually invigorated Michael. Today, however, it merely served as a reminder of the energy he didn't possess. He sat at the kitchen table, staring blankly at the legal documents that had arrived earlier that morning.

His father’s will, the announcement of a sibling he'd never heard of. The thought of delving into these matters, of untangling family history and legal proceedings, felt like swimming through molasses. His muscles ached, his head felt heavy, and the desire to simply stay put, to let the world pass him by, was overwhelming. He let out a long sigh, and pushed the paperwork aside.
