The email arrived like a lead weight in his inbox, the subject line a stark accusation: "Important Announcement Regarding University Status." He scrolled through the morning’s social media feed, each post a minuscule victory over the rising tide of his own inertia. The announcement lingered unopened, a digital pebble on the shore of his ambition.

He stretched, a yawn escaping his lips as he did. The overhead light seemed unnecessarily bright. Outside, the world was already moving, but in his cluttered dorm room, stillness reigned. He was content to remain rooted to his bed, the covers a comforting cocoon.

A lukewarm cup of instant coffee sat neglected on his desk. The news would wait. He had time. Plenty of time, he reasoned, as he reached for the remote.
