The announcement sat there, a digital declaration of the end. Her fingers hovered over the email, but she couldn't quite bring herself to click. Instead, she leaned back, letting her head fall against the chair.

Her apartment was a reflection of her current state. Laundry was piled high, dishes sat unwashed in the sink, and dust motes danced in the slivers of sunlight that managed to penetrate the drawn curtains. Facing the news, she decided, was a task for later.

She glanced at the half-finished knitting project on the table, a testament to her stalled attempts at productivity. The gentle click of the needles sounded like a challenge, but her hands stayed still, her mind lost in a haze. The world outside could wait.
