The morning sun, a persistent and unwelcome guest, prodded Amelia awake. She groaned, pulling the duvet higher. The hum of the coffee maker, a promise of wakefulness, barely registered. She burrowed deeper, the soft cotton a comforting prison. Then, her hand brushed against something stiff beneath the covers. It was a notebook, bound in leather, lying open on the bedside table. Liam's handwriting, neat and precise, filled the first page. It was his bucket list. Amelia sighed. Making breakfast? Too much effort. Reading? Perhaps later. Instead, she stayed put, absorbed in the things he wanted to do, feeling a curious mix of affection and a gentle unease about the amount of work it all entailed.
