"Did you take out the trash?" Chloe's voice cut through the silence. Elias didn't answer. He was staring at her bucket list, which she’d left open on the kitchen counter. It featured items like "Plant a garden" and "Run a marathon." He felt a strange combination of guilt and relief. Guilt at his lack of progress and relief that she hadn’t asked him to do any of it. He sighed, the thought of the trash, the garden, the marathon, filling him with a weariness that settled deep in his bones. He remained seated.
