Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the bleakness inside Elias. He stared out, watching the water streak the glass. Another Tuesday, another day spent scrolling through feeds, finding nothing to hold his attention. His sister, Sarah, had dropped off her daughter, Lily, earlier, leaving a scattering of crayons and paper on the coffee table. Lily, aged five, was upstairs, presumably engaged in some colourful creation. Elias sighed, the sound heavy in the quiet apartment. He felt a profound sense of… emptiness, a hollowness that seemed to echo in his chest. He picked up a crumpled piece of paper Lily had left behind. A drawing. A stick figure with wild, swirling hair and mismatched buttons for eyes. Beside it, scrawled in a child's hand, was the name: Captain Sparkle.
