The air in the apartment felt heavy, suffocating. The silence was deafening. He found himself staring at the wall for hours, the paint colours beginning to look indistinct. His friend, Alex, had asked him to babysit his daughter, Poppy. Poppy, with her relentless energy, was currently "building a castle" out of cushions.
