He’d stopped shaving three days ago. The mirror, usually a source of mild vanity, now held a stranger. David slumped on the park bench, the cold seeping through his thin jeans. The vibrant autumn colours around him, the crunch of leaves underfoot, were all just… background noise. He’d lost his appetite for everything, even the sourdough starter he usually doted on.

His phone buzzed. Another email, this one with the subject line, "An Invitation." Curious, he opened it. It was from a literary agent, praising the "compelling narrative" of his life. Attached was a manuscript, “The Ordinary Extraordinary: The David Miller Story.”

He closed his eyes, a strange sense of… emptiness, washing over him.
