“More coffee,” I mumbled to myself, the words devoid of any real intention. The cup was already full; I’d poured the same amount over and over. The incessant banging next door was a constant irritant. It seemed to amplify the internal chaos that had become my everyday state.

I dragged myself out of my chair and stood at the window, watching the workers. Their energy was a stark reminder of my own lack of it. I felt disconnected, like I was observing my own life through a foggy glass. The apartment felt too small, the walls closing in.
