The world seemed to have lost its colour. Sarah’s hands trembled as she deleted the email. It was a digital death sentence. Her shoulders slumped; she felt her body become heavy. A heavy feeling weighed down on her, inside and out. The thought of anything – getting up, going outside, talking to someone – was like trying to climb a wall made of tar.

The afternoon light streamed through the window, casting long shadows across her bedroom floor. She didn't want to do anything. She didn't want to speak to anyone.

She closed her eyes, imagining herself shrinking, becoming invisible, evaporating into the dusty air of her room. This was not the life she'd planned for.
