“Another day, another… nothing,” muttered Sarah, her voice a monotone that barely registered in the quiet apartment. She traced patterns on the condensation of her lukewarm coffee. The coffee had lost its warmth long ago, mirroring the chill that permeated her.

Her father's voice, booming from the kitchen, startled her. "Sarah, dear! Are you up? I made waffles!" The forced cheerfulness grated on her nerves. She dragged herself out of the chair, each movement feeling like an immense effort. The prospect of waffles, once a delight, now filled her with a profound sense of… emptiness.

She stared at the golden squares on her plate. She picked at them with her fork, the sweetness doing nothing to alleviate the internal void. The sunlight streaming through the window seemed too bright, the sounds of the morning too loud. She felt adrift in a sea of unspoken emotions.
