Gemotions

The music grated on her ears, the cheerful melodies failing to lift her spirits. She felt like a stranger in her own body, disconnected from the revelry surrounding her. Every attempt at conversation fell flat. The smiles she returned were hollow.

She watched the happy couple as they danced. She remembered the wedding they had planned, the future they had envisioned, the dreams that had died.

And then she saw him. He was standing near the entrance, looking detached and alone. The sight of him brought a rush of feelings, a mixture of sadness and something else, something she didn't want to name. She quickly found a secluded spot near the dance floor.
