The hum of the office felt like an assault. David stared at his computer screen, the words swimming before his eyes. He’d barely touched the keyboard all morning. Everything felt like a colossal effort, and the sense of futility was overwhelming. He felt like his limbs were made of lead. He had been apathetic for weeks. He thought of Sam, his friend, who always boasted of his exciting career as a video game developer.
