He sat at his desk, staring at the screen, the blinking cursor a mocking reminder of his inability to focus. He'd been trying to write, but the words wouldn't come. His mind was elsewhere, replaying the conversation he’d had with his brother, Ben. They'd been discussing a fishing trip they took.

"Remember the size of that fish? It was huge!" Ben had said, describing their shared memories with enthusiasm.

He couldn't access that same level of excitement. He remembered the freezing cold, the relentless wind, and the bone-deep weariness. He recalled feeling utterly isolated, and watching Ben’s easy joy with a mix of envy and bafflement. He didn’t fit in. When he tried to convey his recollections, Ben just laughed it off.

He leaned back in his chair, the world feeling distant and muffled. Everything was heavy.
