Gemotions

"Just put it in the bin, honey," his mother had said, her voice a distant echo. Sarah, however, found herself unable to comply. The bin was in the kitchen, and it implied finality, the end of something. Something she wasn’t sure she wanted to let go of.

The cardboard box in her arms overflowed with papers. School projects, graded quizzes, and artwork of an embarrassingly childish quality. The sheer volume of it was overwhelming. She had expected to be amused. Instead, she just felt… heavy.

She sat on the floor, surrounded by her past. She picked up a report on the solar system. The sun was drawn with a vibrant yellow crayon, childishly bright. It was a sun she no longer recognized. Sighing, Sarah ran a hand through her hair, and wished she could just disappear.
