It was a gray, overcast day, matching the bleakness that clung to Jessica. She stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, each drop a tiny reminder of the countless, pointless moments of the day.

A message. From her friend, Lisa. "Hey! I loved your article!" A smile, perhaps? No. The smile was a fleeting, unwanted visitor. Jessica, confused, opened the link.

It was there, the article she had written and submitted. Yet the byline showed another name, "Megan Davis." A cold feeling enveloped her, a stifling weight. She felt herself withdrawing, disappearing into the shadows of the room.
