She stared at the acceptance letter, the crisp paper blurring through a haze of tears. The words swam before her eyes: *...we regret to inform you...* Her stomach churned, a knot of disappointment tightening with each passing second. The rhythmic thrum of the refrigerator in the kitchen was the only sound in the house, a monotonous beat accompanying the heavy silence. She pushed the letter away, the glossy surface reflecting her own disheartened face. Each day seemed to bleed into the next, all blurring into a meaningless gray. The vibrant colours of the world had faded to monochrome.
