Gemotions

The phone lay abandoned on the kitchen counter, its screen displaying the dreaded message. Emily ran a hand through her hair, a gesture that did little to untangle the knots of disappointment twisting inside. Her energy had evaporated, leaving behind a flatness that settled in her chest. She had envisioned the joy, the laughter. Now, the apartment seemed too big, the silence too loud. She wandered aimlessly into the bedroom, not knowing what she wanted, only that she didn't want this.
