The morning dragged. Amelia stared at the clock, watching the second hand crawl. She had a pile of unopened mail sitting on the kitchen counter, each envelope a small mountain she couldn't summon the energy to climb. Usually, the aroma of brewing coffee was enough to stir her, but today the scent did nothing. A leaden feeling settled in her chest, pressing down on her ribs. Her phone buzzed, a notification from her favorite restaurant, "The Cozy Kettle." Closing down, it announced, effective immediately. Amelia slumped onto a stool, the world suddenly seeming to tilt on its axis.
