The weight of the unopened bills on Sarah's desk felt crushing. She hadn't even bothered to open them, letting them accumulate, a testament to her inertia. The sterile white walls of her apartment seemed to close in on her, reflecting the internal blankness she felt. She hadn't left the apartment all day, the outside world a blurry, distant concept.

A knock. She barely reacted, but after a second one, she dragged herself to the door. Standing there was a man, holding a bouquet of flowers. He looked surprised, and slightly bewildered.

"I'm… I’m looking for Mark," he said, his voice hesitant. "Is he… here?"
