I found the wallet while wandering in the forest. The trees looked the same, the path stretched endlessly ahead. Picking it up, I barely registered the weight. The contents were substantial.

Inside, there was enough money to change my life, buy freedom, make all the choices I'd been too afraid to consider. I felt no surge of excitement, no rush of adrenaline. Just a dull ache that echoed the hollow feeling inside. I considered using it, considered leaving it, but felt no strong inclination either way.
