Gemotions

The smell of burnt toast hung heavy in the air. Sarah had forgotten again. She pushed the charred remains to the side of the plate, the metallic tang of unappetizing breakfast adding to the already unpleasant morning. A frantic bark and a yelp signaled Buster's escape, the neighbor's golden retriever wreaking havoc.

She almost didn’t care. She watched him romp through her vegetable patch, trampling her tomatoes. The vibrant reds and greens usually filled her with a sense of accomplishment, but today, they barely registered. Her limbs felt heavy, and the world seemed distant. She didn't bother to chase the dog, her steps slow, her gaze unfocused. Eventually she gathered enough energy to push her way out into the garden.
