Gemotions

The bus ride home was a blur of faces and noise. Everything seemed to fade into a hazy background for Sam. He stared out the window, watching the world drift by like a poorly edited film. The vibrant greens and blues of the countryside were muted, greyed out. He felt like he was observing everything through a pane of clouded glass.

The news had hit hard. All the training, the sacrifices, the hours spent practicing. He felt as if a vital piece of his self had been torn away. He’d tried to focus on his schoolwork, but the words on the page were blurry and indistinct. He felt detached, as though he was floating above himself.

The bus rattled to a stop, and he got off, dragging his feet. The walk from the bus stop to his house had never seemed so long.
