Gemotions

The familiar rhythm of the piano seemed to mock Emily. She sat on the bench, her fingers hovering over the keys. She had practiced the piece a thousand times. Now, the music sounded…flat. The notes felt dead beneath her fingertips.

She should have been practicing for the upcoming recital, but the thought filled her with dread. The words from the coach still echoed in her head. All of her practice, all of her hopes. Gone. It all felt like a waste of time. She struck a chord, but it didn't sound right. She stopped.

She stared out the window at the rain. Everything, she thought, was just…grey.
