Gemotions

She stood in front of the mirror, studying her face. The lines seemed deeper than before, the eyes dull. The rejection had stripped away something vital, leaving her feeling hollow and incomplete. She felt the skin of her face fall, like she was wearing a mask.

She tried to read, but the words swam before her eyes. She switched on the television, but the images blurred into a meaningless stream of noise. She felt detached from everything, as if she were observing her own life from a great distance.

She went to bed early, pulling the covers over her head, seeking oblivion. The darkness offered a temporary respite, but the dawn, inevitable, would bring the same emptiness.
