The air grew thick, the silence oppressive. The woman, whose name he couldn't recall, tapped her foot impatiently. He remained still, his back against the cold steel of the elevator wall.

He felt like a marionette, his strings tangled, his movements clumsy. Every effort was futile, every accomplishment hollow. The weight of expectations, the burden of routine, pressed down on him with suffocating force.

He closed his eyes, hoping to find a brief respite, a moment of peace. But even in darkness, he felt the hollowness, the profound sense of being utterly uninspired.
