The lecture hall, usually filled with the energetic chatter of students, felt cavernous and empty. He sat in the back, avoiding eye contact with the few remaining students. The professor’s words, usually a source of inspiration, seemed to drone on endlessly. He couldn't seem to focus, his mind replaying the email announcement, the lines blurring together like an ink stain. The thesis, a project he'd once embraced with fervor, now seemed like a monumental task he couldn't even begin. His heart rate felt irregular, a quickening beat that mirrored his sense of disorientation.
