A strange heaviness settled in Anya's limbs as she entered the office. Her usual morning pep, the brisk walk, the carefully crafted outfit – all felt like a costume she was no longer sure she wanted to wear. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, adding to the general sense of unease.

She knew she should be preparing for the interview. The Head of Marketing position was within her grasp, or so she thought. But the energy to research the latest trends, to polish her presentation, had simply evaporated. She found herself staring blankly at the computer screen, the cursor blinking like a mocking eye.

Her mind wandered. She thought of the weekend, the promise of sunshine, the book she'd been meaning to read. The anticipation of it felt distant, muted. Even the thought of a delicious meal failed to stir any enthusiasm. She felt disconnected, like an actor waiting for the curtain to rise on a play she no longer wished to perform.
