Gemotions

The scent of stale coffee and printer ink hung heavy in the air, a familiar aroma that usually brought a sense of comfort. Today, however, it seemed to suffocate Amelia. She leaned back in her chair, the hard plastic digging into her spine.

The promotion loomed large, a symbol of everything she had strived for. The interview was scheduled, the presentation prepared. But the excitement, the anticipation, was nowhere to be found. Instead, a heavy blanket of resignation had settled over her, making the prospect seem burdensome.

She closed her eyes, trying to conjure the energy to get through the day. The hum of the fluorescent lights seemed to bore into her skull. She wanted to escape, to retreat, to be alone with her silence. She felt the hollow ache of disinterest, a feeling that had become a constant companion.
