"I just can't," Maria muttered to herself, staring at the canvas. Another day, another attempt to paint. She’d stare at the blank space for hours, the colors, the brushes, all seeming like foreign objects. The studio, usually her sanctuary, felt like a prison. The creative spirit that had always flowed through her had seemingly dried up.

While tidying up a storage room, she discovered a small, wooden box. Inside, was a single sheet of paper. Her grandmother’s handwriting, bold and flourishing, filled the page. A letter of resignation. Dated 1957. It was addressed to her grandmother's ballet school.

Maria sat down heavily. The letter spoke of a desire to prioritize her growing family. Maria had always known her grandmother’s artistic talent, and how she'd given it up. She now understood the reasons in a way she never had before, and she was left with the same confusion and hollow feeling.
