The dust motes danced in the sliver of sunlight that pierced the curtains, illuminating the stale air of my apartment. I watched them, mesmerized, for what felt like hours. Breakfast? Lunch? The day blurred into a gray, undifferentiated mass. Nothing seemed to hold any weight, any consequence.

I was aimlessly flipping through a magazine, the pages falling open at random. An advertisement. A therapist, Dr. Emily Carter. A wave of recognition slammed into me. Emily Carter. The girl with the cruel, mocking laugh, the one who'd spread rumors about me. I felt a coldness creep into my limbs.

I stared at the picture, her face now older, softer, but still…familiar. The thought of her, of her analyzing me, of her knowing my weaknesses…it was both terrifying and strangely compelling. I closed my eyes and imagined myself sitting across from her. I could almost hear her voice, calm and professional. A shiver ran down my spine, and I found myself reaching for my phone.
