Gemotions

The air in the room felt thick, stale. He hadn't bothered opening the windows in days. He couldn’t seem to muster the energy to perform even the simplest actions.

The vibrations of the doorbell were startling. He knew who it would be before he even peeked through the peephole. The woman from downstairs, her features pinched in frustration. “The bass,” she said, her voice sharp. “It’s keeping me up.”

He nodded, a gesture that barely registered with him. He shut the door and sank back onto his bed, the familiar ache in his limbs deepening. He watched the sunlight slowly begin to fade.
