The treadmill. The gym. The daily routine. Every movement felt like a chore. Alex stared at the illuminated screen, the numbers blinking meaningless patterns. Even the endorphin rush, once a familiar comfort, failed to materialize. He felt like a machine running on empty, moving through programmed motions with no reward.

In the locker room, a man with a tired face caught his eye. “Rough day?” the man asked, his voice low.

“Something like that,” Alex mumbled, avoiding eye contact.

“I know the feeling,” the man said. “The… constant exhaustion? The feeling of being perpetually… depleted?” He mentioned a rare mitochondrial disorder, known as "The Fade," the symptoms so obscure that only other sufferers understood. They discovered they had much in common, a shared history of medical misdiagnoses and the ongoing struggle to live with the illness.
