Gemotions

The doorbell rang. Sarah, still in her pajamas at four in the afternoon, peered through the peephole. A florist’s van. She opened the door reluctantly. A large arrangement of mixed flowers, overflowing with color, was presented to her. No card.

She stared at them, a tangle of emotions stirring within her: confusion, maybe even a flicker of annoyance. She shoved them into a vase, then went back to her bed, turning the lights off. She pulled the covers over her head, wishing the world would simply cease.
