“Climb a mountain,” the first entry declared, bold and assertive. Michael rubbed a hand across his jaw. He couldn't even bring himself to walk to the corner store without feeling a crushing weight in his shoulders.

He turned the page. "Learn Spanish. Visit Rome. Fall in love again." His stomach lurched. Fall in love again? He felt like he was drowning in the stagnant waters of their routine. He closed the book, the leather cool against his palm, and felt a profound sense of the void he was inhabiting.
