The house seemed to shrink around David. Days blurred into a monotonous cycle of work and sleep, punctuated by a gnawing sense of emptiness. He’d stumbled upon his wife, Susan's, journal, her hidden dreams now revealed.

"See a Broadway show. Learn to paint. Volunteer at an animal shelter." He read them slowly, each word a testament to a life lived with a vibrancy he no longer possessed. He looked at his own hands, calloused from years of the same, boring work.

He closed the book, the weight of Susan’s aspirations heavy in his chest. A sudden, sharp longing for something he couldn't name twisted through him. The urge to break free, to *do*, pulsed through him. But the feeling, like always, was quickly extinguished.
