He worked in a light-filled studio overlooking the river. The notification on his phone was a jolt. His abstract piece, "Chromatic Drift," had been tattooed. A cascade of colors, now permanently etched onto another person. The news made him feel... nothing at first.

He found himself wandering aimlessly through his apartment. He was used to the silence, the lack of human contact. It was all he knew. He'd spent his life building walls. Then he got an image.

He kept the email open, studying the image. He saw the way the tattoo artist had captured the essence of his work. He was suddenly aware of the empty space beside him.

He poured himself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid swirling in the glass. It didn't soothe the odd ache he felt. The man in the picture felt so far away.
