The silence of the house was a heavy blanket, suffocating. Clara wandered aimlessly, the wooden floors creaking under her feet. Her husband, David, was working in the study. She could hear the faint tap-tap-tap of his keyboard, an intrusion on the emptiness. A profound sense of disconnect filled her. The air seemed thin, as though it was difficult to breathe.

She paused outside the study door, the handle cold beneath her palm. Through the crack, she saw him hunched over his laptop, a book open beside him, covered in what looked like her grandmother’s elegant cursive script. She could almost make out a phrase: "Cómo estás?" A cold shudder ran down her spine. The distance between them felt vast.
