The weight of the house settled on Ethan's shoulders as he closed the front door. His sister, Chloe, was already calling her friends. He looked around at the hall, the peeling wallpaper, the faded carpet, and felt something he couldn't name.

He walked from room to room, the silence growing with each step. He sat in the living room and looked at the dusty television. He switched it on, but the images flickered on the screen without capturing his attention.
