The office was quiet, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. Liam was the only one still working, the last one in the building. He'd been clearing out old files.

He found it: a letter, addressed to his college roommate, a friend from long ago. It seemed like another life. The letter was unmailed, its contents reflecting the awkwardness of youth.

He felt a pull in his chest, an ache that had been with him for far too long. He stared at the faded ink, the words like a forgotten language. He needed a drink. He needed to talk to someone. He didn't. He put the letter away.
