"Unbelievable," Clara muttered, the words barely audible as she stared at the email. Professor Singh, her mentor, was leaving. The weight of the impending project suddenly felt crushing, overwhelming. The university library, usually a place of comfort, felt desolate and unwelcoming.

She skipped her usual study session with the other graduate students. She went back to her apartment, the silence amplifying the echo of the news. She turned on the television, but nothing held her attention.

She lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling, the shadows of the room dancing in the darkness. The hours passed slowly, each moment a reminder of her predicament. The feeling of being completely detached clung to her.
