Gemotions

The old saxophone case felt heavy in his hands. He'd blown the horn for years, the music filling apartments, bars, and clubs. The sound had been his release, his voice, his companion. Now, it just held memories, a reminder of what was gone. The music had stopped, and so, it seemed, had a part of him.

His daughter, Olivia, had taken up the saxophone. He heard her now, from the living room, practicing a jazz scale, the notes a little shaky, but filled with a passion he hadn’t felt in years. He felt the tightness in his chest ease. He found himself drawn to the doorway, and listened to Olivia's playing. A smile touched his lips.
