He’d always been a creature of habit. Every Saturday morning he went to the bank, and so, the digital footprint on the computer had been easy to trace. She discovered his secret account. The amount was significant, enough for early retirement, for travel, for a new life. She didn’t know how to digest it all.

The weight in her chest was immense. She felt like she was holding her breath, waiting for something to break. She sat on the porch swing, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and purple. The rhythmic creak of the swing was the only sound. She felt utterly alone.
