"Delayed indefinitely." The words echoed in her ears, each syllable a punch to the gut. This flight was crucial; it was her chance to see her sister, who was going through a tough time. She wanted to be there, to offer a comforting presence, a shoulder to lean on. Disappointment washed over her.

She closed her eyes, picturing her sister’s face, the slight tremor in her voice, the vulnerability that she always hid. She thought about all the conversations they'd had, the laughter they'd shared, the secrets they'd confided in each other.

She found herself walking towards the nearest coffee shop. She ordered two drinks and two croissants. She called her sister and started chatting with her, hoping the sweet treats and warm conversation would make her feel better.
