The soft melody of the jazz record filled the living room as they danced. She leaned against him, her head resting against his shoulder, lost in the rhythm. It was a perfect moment.

His phone buzzed. He pulled away, muttering apologies, and stepped out onto the balcony, the music fading behind him. The sound of his voice, low and guarded, reached her through the open window. A chill spread through her, replacing the warmth she had just felt.
